In 2014, “Angels Walk” created a self-guided, historic walking trail with the installation of -15- on-sidewalk markers celebrating our North Hollywood history including El Portal Theatre, Amelia Earhart, Lankershim Train Depot, and the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

In addition to the 1.5-mile walking trail of -15- on-sidewalk stanchion panels (1-to-2 hours average completion time), Angels Walk NoHo also published a guidebook telling the story of our community’s history, culture, and architecture.

This guidebook is no longer available in print, but a PDF version is available online:

Our thanks to Angels Walk LA (https://www.angelswalkla.org/) for sharing this valuable information with our community.

For over 20 years, Angels Walk LA has worked to preserve our Los Angeles history, while promoting pedestrian engagement and public transportation throughout the greater Los Angeles area.

Between 1997 and 2021, -13- self-guided, historic walking trails were completed including North Hollywood, Hollywood, Bunker Hill/Historic Core district, Union Station, Wilshire, and Chinatown.

Per Angels Walk LA, these walks exist to bring light to the rich and diverse history of our city by encouraging exploration and discovery of the significant people, architecture, events, and cultural movements that have shaped our great neighborhoods.

To determine the route of each walk, Angels Walk LA met with L.A. Metro representatives, City Council members, and stakeholders in the area to get their input.

We then put ourselves in the footsteps of the pedestrian to see how the walk could be both entertaining and educational, while using public transit to link together all of the important destinations along the way.

With the help of a talented and dedicated group of people, our first detailed guidebook, telling the story of the area’s history, culture, and architecture, was published for Bunker Hill/Historic Core district in 1997.

Additionally, Angels Walk LA created a series of on-sidewalk markers that now grace streets all over Los Angeles.

Support for the Angels Walk LA nonprofit was gained from both the public and private sector including L.A. Metro, various City Council offices, the Mayor’s Office, the Community Redevelopment Agency, private developers, the Bureau of Street Services, the City Architect, the Board of Public Works, the L.A. Department of Transportation, and the L.A. Department of Cultural Affairs.
